Best actress oscar to Jennifer Jones (1944) Did Marie Bernarde Soubirous (later St. Bernadette) truly have a miraculous vision? Believers still believe. Doubters still doubt. TRIVIA: Linda Darnell was the first choice to play Bernadette, but her screen reputation (not her private reputation) quickly put an end to that pipe dream. It's fascinating to speculate on what this film might have been like had she been cast. (Instead she was given the title role in the lurid period-piece soap opera, "Forever Amber.")
