The Army-Navy Screen Magazine Number 23, 1944 01 So's Your Old Man : Short film about elderly men, too old for service in the regular Navy, who volunteer to guard ports and docks for the U.S. Coast Guard Volunteer Port Security Force (VPSF). 02 Somewhere In Italy : Short film about Italian mountaineer troops training with U.S. troops. 03 Target Germany : Short film about the 8th Army Air Force aerial bombing operations over Germany. 04 Private Snafu - Malaria Mike : Short animated film about Pvt Snafu vs a malarial mosquito. The Army-Navy Screen Magazine was produced by the U.S. Army Signal Corps Pictorial Service, under the supervision of Col. Frank Capra, who came up with the idea. It was released twice a month and shown to military troops as a 20-minute newsreel. " By the end of the war, the Army-Navy Screen Magazine reached an enormous weekly audience of 4.2 million. It had become for American soldiers all over the world a communal experience that greatly influenced their perception of the war.
