This month, astronaut Tracy Dyson talks the station’s role as a platform for biological research. Biological research, encompassing cells, plants, animals, genetics, biochemistry, human physiology, etc., and biotechnology (technology based on biology), harnesses cellular and biomolecular processes to develop technologies and products that can translate to improving our lives and the health of our planet. Examples of the benefits from this research include: combating diseases, reducing our environmental footprint, feeding the world’s population, and developing cleaner energy.
