"While vacationing in Colorado in the summer of 2002, I was reminded the 50th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary being the first person to summit Mt. Everest would be coming up in a few months. After a series of emails explaining my video interviews of noted climbers project for the American Alpine Club library, Sir Edmund's agent sent word that I could have one hour at 10 am Sept. 3rd at the Hillary home in Auckland, NZ. What a thrill. Not having Sir Edmund in my interview collection would be akin to the Louvre without the Mona LIsa. When I arrived at the Hillary home, it was raining and equipment destroying a house two doors away made a terrible racket. Assuming the destruction crew would not want to go away while I did the interview, I went in the house and got on with it. In what seemed as if only a few minutes had gone by, it was already noon and Lady June Hillary interrupted to say lunch was ready. To my surprise, she also had set a place for me. After lunch, I continued and finally at 4 pm, Lady June insisted she drive me back to the hotel. Now, it is my understanding Sir Edmund have only three interviews on his anniversary.
