Royal Robbins: John Meek Interview
About this film
"Some people apparently are born almost fearless and that must include Royal Robbins. As a youth, one of his activities was jumping from one freight car to the other while they were moving in opposite directions. CLimbing in the golden ago of Yosemite with Yvonne Chouinard, Tom Frost, Warren Harding, Chuck Pratt and others described by one outdoors magazine as "demigods," demanded either supreme confidence or fearlessness. His nighttime rescue work to help Warren Harding and Galen Rowell when they were caught by unusually inclement weather on Half Dome one October is just a single example of Robbins' outstanding ability as a climber -- and that was a rappel to where Harding and Rowell were stranded on a ledge estimated to be about 1,000 feet below the summit. But Robbins did not just share his outstanding climbing abilities with climbing partners. He is the author of two little "bibles" on beginning and advanced climbing that have been priceless to those who aspire to excel in mountaineering. Perhaps in this situation, as with Chouinard's Patagonia company, confidence gained on the rock was translated into business success with his own line of Royal Robbins outdoor wear." --John Ma…
