Deborah Ross interviewed Randi Abramson on January 23, 2011 in Washington, D.C. as part of the Jewish Womenâs Archive "Weaving Women's Words" project. Randi Abramson is the medical director of Bread for the City in Washington, D.C. A primary care physician, she has devoted her career to providing medical care to underserved people in the nationâs capital. In her interview, she talks about the challenges and rewards of working with poor people. She reflects on growing up Jewish in Toledo, Ohio, where she sometimes felt singled out as a Jew, and how this influenced her later choices to spend time in Israel and become involved with Young Judea. She also discusses the challenges faced by the first wave of women to enter the competitive and sometimes hostile world of medical school in any numbers. During 2010 and 2011, Deborah Ross decided to interview a number of Jewish women living and working in and around Washington, D.C.
