About this film

For some unfathomable reason the Chinese want to sabotage the Panama Canal. (Considering this film's release date its producers picked the wrong yellow peril.) The plot is mostly about codes and cryptography. Leon Ames starrs as the heroic US cryptographer who saves the day. Nobody gets anywhere near Panama. Directed by Charles Lamont. Released in 1939. Complete print (minus a few missing frames). TRIVIA: First telecast May 11, 1940 on NYC's experimental station W2XBS.
