National Archives description "1) MS Marines raise flag on hill where Japanese made last stand. 2) CU GEN JOSEPH STILLWELL, 10th Army. 3) MS GEN STILLWELL & GEN GEIGER climb up path of very steep hill. 4) MS Flag is raised to top of staff. 5) CU Flag flying. 6) MS GENERALS GEIGER & STILLWELL salute. 7) CU Both generals. 8) CU GEN STILLWELL talking with assembled men. 9) CU GEN STILLWELL. 10) MS GEN DelVALLE, GEN STILLWELL & GEN GEIGER. 11) MS Officers & men pose around sign & flag pole. (Sign is a plaque erected in front of the flag pole. It reads: "WITHIN THIS HILL IS SEALED THE COMMAND POST OF LT GENERAL USHIJIMA OF THE 32ND JAPANESE ARMY SURROUNDED BY HIS SENIOR OFFICERS MADE HIS FINAL ORGANIZED STAND. THIS HILL WAS SEIZED BY TROOPS OF THE 7th INFANTRY DIVISION ON JUNE 21, 1945, ENDING THE BATTLE FOR OKINAWA."
