Mosquitoes and malaria
About this film
This video demonstrates both the classical dissection technique (demonstrated here by Mr. P.G. Shute and Dr. R.S. Bray in Wellcome-made archive film from 1953) and the modern enzyme-linked immunosorbent method (ELISA) for detecting malaria sporozoites and oocysts in female Anopheles mosquitoes. Although modern immunological techniques are more rapid and efficient, dissection under the microscope is still important in areas where modern methods are not readily available. 3 segments.
