Expedition 44 Crew Conducts Traditional Ceremonies in Star City, Russia

Expedition 44 Soyuz Commander Oleg Kononenko of the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos), NASA Flight Engineer Kjell Lindgren and Flight Engineer Kimiya Yui of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, and their backups, Yuri Malenchenko of Roscosmos, Tim Kopra of NASA and Timothy Peake of the European Space Agency visited the Gagarin Museum where they viewed historic space artifacts at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Russia July 8, then laid flowers at the statue of Yuri Gagarin, the first human to fly in space. Kononenko, Lindgren and Yui are scheduled to launch on July 23, Kazakh time, in the Soyuz TMA-17M spacecraft to the International Space Station for a five- month mission.
