A well-acted and well-directed albeit claustrophobic war drama. The bottom line is you can't go wrong with any film starring Paul Muni. Directed by Zoltan Korda. Adapted from a Russian-language play written by the soviet authors Mikhail Ruderman and Ilya Vershinin. TRIVIA: John Howard Lawson, the American screenplay writer who adapted this film, later became one of the unfortunate Hollywood Ten who were unfairly blacklisted as the result of appearances before the witch hunting House Committee on Un-American Activities.
