U.S. Army newsreel Combat Bulletin #17, 1944. Shows combat activities in August, 1944 including Operation Dragoon. Title Cards: Mediterranean: Invasion Of Southern France C.B.I.: Operations In Burma Pacific: Japs Attack Task Force Description at the National Archives: "(Reel 1:) Part 1: Ships assemble in the Mediterranean (August 15). Troops on ships check equipment; shows Secretary Forrestal. Gliders and paratroops land en masse and contact French patriots. The 451st Regiment [No - 451st Bomb Group.] fights near St. Raphael. Reinforcements are unloaded. Shows captured positions (Reel 2:) and a bombed ship. Engineers make an airstrip. Part 2: (SFR only) Rockets are fired from a launcher mounted on a tank. Part 3: (CB Part 2:) In Northern France, British forces lay cable across the channel to Cherbourg (SFR only). U.S. troops return radios to French citizens. German POW working parties repair railroads and handle supplies (SFR only). Troops are welcomed at Rennes; shows collaborationists and captured German supplies.
