In 2001, Thelonious Monster played a few shows in L.A. including a benefit for Gloria Scott, a legendary L.A. drug counselor. Around the same time, a friend of Bob's was turning 40, so the birthday boy's pals asked Bob if he'd bring the band to NYC to do a birthday party. Bob said yes. The Monster drove a tough bargain. They wanted plane tickets and a hotel room for all of them to share (although Bob ended up staying somewhere else). Since the Monster was coming to NYC, their manager set up a gig at the Mercury Lounge where Bob F. would do a solo set of Bicycle Thief tunes, followed by a full on Monster set.
