"Allen [Steck] and Steve Roper are recipients of the prestigious American Alpine Club' Literary Award for co-authoring "Fifty Classic Climbs of North America", co-editing "The Best of Ascent" and other works. Steve was not interviewed with Allen because he was not at the AAC Annual meeting where the award was presented. "Fifty Classic Climbs" is a classic within itself and has inspired many climbers to try some of these routes. Personally, I have climbed only a few of the fifty but enjoyed the enormous beauty of the Tetons and Yosemite, wonderful memories that will stay with me forever. But, even though all these summits cannot be reached without a great deal of time and much effort, the beauty of their locations also is another kind of classic climb."
