United Newsreel (U.S. Office of War Information) news released August, 4 1944: U.S. Prepares More Paratroops for Battle General De Gaulle Decorates Fifth Army Commander Huge Naval Salvage Crane in Action Waves Celebrate Second Birthday [30 July 1944] U.S. Admirals Visit Saipan New Volcano Erupts on Mexico National Archives description "Part 1, paratroops train and jump from planes. Part 2, Gen. de Gaulle presents the Legion of Honor to Gen. Mark Clark. Part 3, shows a Navy salvage crane at work off the Atlantic coast. Part 4, WAVES in Cedar Falls, Iowa, pick corn during a farm labor shortage. At Hunter College in New York City, WAVES pass in review for Mayor La Guardia. Part 5, Adms. King and Nimitz visit Saipan. Shows Marine Gen. Holland Smith. Part 6, a volcano erupts at Paricutin, Mexico. Lava advances, wrecking homes, as citizens flee."
