A romantic victorian ghost story that's suspenseful rather than frightening. Good cast led by James Mason and Margaret Lockwood. Mason appears in a character role. The production values are adequate for the story. Adapted from the novel by Osbert Sitwell. Directed by Bernard Knowles. UK release 1945. US release 1949. Complete print. CAST NOTES: Ernest Thesiger is best known in the US for his role as the evil Dr. Pretorius in "The Bride of Frankenstein." Dennis Price is here at IA in "Eight Witnesses."
