About this film

“Western Washington Indians Then and Now” was a series of seven televisions shows recorded at the University of Washington Burke Museum “Community House” between 1965 and 1966. Anthropologist Erna Gunther was the host. Footage from various on-site locations is also edited into the programs. Six show is 29 minutes long and is black and white. The six copies videos here were transferred from VHS tapes in the Vi Hilbert Collection at the UW Ethnomusicology Archives. Same series info on each tape – Opening & closing image on each tape – drawing of village - Title on each tape – “Western Washington Indians, Then and Now / with Doctor Erna Gunther” - Closing credits on each tape: “Produced in Cooperation with the Junior League of Seattle” These shows first aired on Seattle's public television station, KCTS Channel 9. The station's license was held in trust for the community by the University of Washington Board of Regents until the mid-1980s. At the time this show was produced, space for the station was provided by the University.
