1st Generation Singing Birthday Card From 1985
About this film
Back when birthday cards started singing cheerful chiptunes back to you, for the price of $7.50 USD, here is what one of the first sounded like (never mind the slightly dying battery). It used a somewhat bulky sound chip tucked in between two layers of thick paper, and was triggered when one opened the card. Soon after, more streamlined chips were released, with better quality sound and complexity. 21st century greeting cards operate the same exact way, but, with real audio and even simple physical animation of pop-up characters.
